And who says doctors don’t make house calls anymore
Well, in New Hampshire they sure still do. Her name is Karen… She is an Applied Kinesiology (AK) Chiropractor. And when she received a call from our friend and chiropractor, Dr. Don Grant in Vancouver and was told about our daily running schedule, she offered to see us and give us a tune up. We thought this was great news as AK chiros haven’t been as easy to find, so we jumped at the chance and started setting up when we were running through here area.
Unfortunately it looked like we were running through on a Saturday, Sunday power combo called “weekend” for most of the working world. She didn’t think twice and say, “I could come to you”. Come to us, n the RV? It was quickly established we didn’t have enough room to fit her work table so we set another plan in motion, by way of an offer to stay given to us from the owner of “The Port Inn”, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. We called (it should be noted the clouds were also looking ominous and filled with rain and our RV’s solar panels were low on juice). Our 1% for the Planet team member, Rebecca Lee had originally set up the stay but the dates didn’t look like they would work so we said thanks and declined his generous offer.
We thought about what needed to be done and what we needed to do, in the form of laundry, as we were about to recycle parts of clothing that shouldn’t be re-used (or turned inside out) more than once. I might as well mention that our bodies hadn’t received that thing normal people call “a shower” in lets say, more than a few days.
So it was decided, Steph would call up the owner and see if the room was still available? First call (by Steph), room was available…. But, it was a smoking room. Steph said emphatically “we’ll take it and didn’t mind the smoke as we smelled worse than it ever could”! Please note, guy on other end of phone not getting the joke here. Guy dryly replies on the other end of the phone, “you wouldn’t want it” and declined the room. Ok, folks, you can’t tell 3 road weary people no after they’ve decided there’s more at stake to this room than normal. We pulled out the big gun, Simon, our newest road member. He rung up “Skip” the day manager and convinced him to call the owner and basically didn’t take no for an answer. A few minutes later we got the green light and an apologetic Skip and we were off towards our clean (but smokey room), showers, laundry and the much anticipated, Chiropractic treatment by the incredible, Dr. Karen Bannon.
After a great sleep, we were greeted at 7am sharp by the smiling traveling chiropractor named Karen Bannon! After intros, photos and general tour and body areas needing attention chit chat, she went to work examining, poking, AK testing, adjusting (gotta love the chiro crack) all three of us back into road form. Karen spent over an hour working adjusting on an early Sunday morning to ensure we were strong, turned on (muscles that is) and ready to tackle more days along our road office with the address, “highway going South U.S.A”.
I hadn’t had a doctor make a house call since I was a kid and thought they were long gone as memory from my youth. Well, I’m here to tell you, there’s still many out there who’ll answer the call.
Thank you Karen, for your generosity and AK techniques to get us back in line.
