A Country full of amazing people
Today I feel it is my duty as a proud Canuck to blog on just few of the other great Canadians we’ve met out here along our Nations highway from coast to coast.
When we finally got through at Roger’s Pass from the mudslide affair, we were welcomed into Golden BC by a friendly lady at the Esso Station who said, after reading our RV’s logo’s, “hi there, you’re the 1st of the season. Welcome to Golden and have a great adventure”. We enquired as to why she said we were “the 1st” and she said, “there’ll be hundreds of you across Canada in the summer types and you’re the 1st I’ve seen”. Cool, we’re number one at something!
So far we’ve seen Brian and Pat Garnett riding across together via Victoria to St. Johns to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer (www.alongwaytogo.kintera.org), a hand-cyclist originally from Pakistan raising money to eradicate polio in 3rd world countries. Ryan Anderson from Winnipeg running, biking and roller blading to raise environmental awareness (www.visiongreennow.ca). And just this morning, I had a great yak with a young guy from Ontario named Mike who is cycling solo across to raise money to bring food and medicine to 3rd world countries (www.bikeforfood.com). I felt honored to be able to offer him a homemade turkey wrap and shelter from the driving Ontario rain storm we were in.
So many Canadians traveling along highway 1 in support of their personal cause or dream of seeing our country from their respective vantage. We feel lucky to be out here running down our dream and meeting so many others doing the same. It’s great to be from Canada!
Happy Canada Day eh (on Tuesday).
PS The mosquitos got Vanessa’s other eye last night. They’re two for two! – see picture above!
