What does LOW STANDING WATER mean?
We’d like to say a huge thank Harry Fromme for sponsoring the lakeside camping spot last night at Vermillion Bay, ON. It was by far the best view beside a lake we’ve had.
It even came with a welcoming committee known as, “The Northern Ontario Mosquitos”. Their motto must read: “We’ll eat you alive if we make it inside your RV!” – just look at Vanessa’s mug shot picture. Her swollen eye is a true testament to their motto because they got inside alright….and had a feast on us! We spent most of the night swatting and smacking ourselves (on and near places that shouldn’t be swatted, or smacked), listening intently for the next unmistakable high-pitched whir as they’re about to strike. It’s amazing how quickly our animal instinct came out to silence the source of the noise.
Mosquito-bitten and sleep-deprived, we are happy to have entered into hill country (especially the Hill writing this), which is the beauty of Northern Ontario… a welcomed change of running landscape and lakes everywhere! We even stopped for half an hour in the turn of the century town of Kenora and feasted on one of our most treasured training treats back in Vancouver, a DQ Blizzard! Serendipitously it appeared at Steph’s break between 10 km pulls.
It feels great (and crazy!) to already be running in our 5th Province… how did we make it here already?… It seems like WAY MORE than 7 weeks ago since we left Vancouver. We hit the official geographical center of Canada late last week (sorry Toronto – Winnipeg owns this one).
Having a nap now and dreams of Mosquito-Girl vs. Godzilla………
Hi guys…Lisa here…just wanted to let you know that my parents live in Waldhof and see that view of Eagle Lake, where you camped, every single morning when they wake up…The mosquitos aren’t fussy though and soon after you guys left Winnipeg we got our first real infestation…THEY WERE NUTS!!! Take advantage of those hills and open spaces where the cool breezes keep them away…Thinking of you guys!!!
All the best, Lisa
