YES WE CAN. And, YES WE DO.
To borrow from Barack’s election platform, which was a simple, yes we can. I also want to add a simple, yes we do.
Why? Because I feel that we as a society are on the verge of something big happening. And the possibilities could go in either direction. We look around and see that world markets continue to falter, resources are dwindling (check out this month’s National Geographic), the economy is slumping globally (especially here in the good ol’ U.S. of A.) and we all have the personal choice on which way things could go.
“We do?”, I hear you asking. Yes, we do, I say in response. WE decide on what is the fate of our investing and spending habits personally. WE decide on what type of goods we purchase, the way they are produced, and the way they are thrown away. WE decide on what we will accept from our lawmakers. WE decide on what state we will accept our environment to be left in for our kids.
These decisions are made every single day by all of us around the world. We all share a common purpose every day the mall opens, everyday a new government takes office, and every morning we take our first breath. Everyday, our single decisions affect something.
I am committed to making this world healthier by running for it. I will keep running until we complete our journey across Canada and around America. I will continue to run (around the globe) and dedicate my life with this pursuit in mind if that’s what it takes to complete this mission for a healthier Earth. This singular run tour won’t change everything and solve all the global issues we currently face. We do believe that small steps really add up. I passionately believe in people and the power of choice. I believe we all posses super human strength when we believe in something outside of ourselves and decide, on mass to come together to help protect it.
Take it in the singular, like when a parent sees a child in danger, or a friend sees another friend in a similar situation, there wells up inside, super human strength to get the loved one to safety. Take this in the bigger picture, like when scientists found a hole in the ozone layer in the 1980’s and together, on-mass, governments around the world came together and banned CFC’s. Just like that, we decided as one singular species to protect something like the ozone layer from a man made substance we knew was killing it.
This is why we need everyone right now, to realize this is this generation’s “ozone layer decision”. We all have to look at ourselves and the way we live daily, and come together on-mass to re-train ourselves to live more friendly for the Earth.
I’m not a scientist. I’m just a guy who loves to run and who wants to create a better world right now and leave something better for my kids (if I’m ever blessed to have them).
Please believe in a “Yes We Can” because it changed America’s course just a little under a month ago. Please believe in a “Yes We Do” too because I personally believe that we do have that power to choose what is right, and we do have the power to make a difference, and we do affect change in other’s by the way we live and the example it gives to others on how they can choose to live also.
YES WE CAN. YES WE DO.
