Welcome to the village of Tilley…
Where there’s dirt roads, one stop light that’s flashing, and a Mayor who greets you as you drive in.
In a span of 5 minutes, we were invited to spend the night in the shade of a maple tree on Main Street, have coffee with the local morning community, and partake in a little hooka with Jason who heard us on the radio. Some of the other finer points of Tilley are an amazing recycling centre, city pride with planter boxes everywhere…. And the fact that we’re basically parked for the night in the middle of town because Tilley’s so tiny!
I think it’s fair to say that the beginnings of the Prairies are nothing short of stellar. Some of the most friendly people – everyone from Elaine who stopped to donate $50 because her daughter heard us on the radio in Edmonton, to Dillan and his Mom who only had $5 but they wanted to donate anyhow, and Courtney at 101.1 The Fox who has us on her hot radio show for over 30 minutes of prime time, inviting us back as regulars.
Another sets on the Run for One Planet, and we continue to be amazed at people’s generosity, enthusiasm for our cause, and true hospitality that Canadians are famous for.
Medicine Hat, here we come…
Cool to know that there is a town that shares my name and glad to know they are environmentally friendly. Now I have to go look up the history of the town. Doubt that there is any connection beyond the name but who knows.
