And then There Was ONE! (from Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal, BC)
I sit here (in the lavatory of Racy) feebly typing two fingered as always, attempting to write something poignant, relevant and encapsulating to describe the feelings, being less than 8 hours away from unlacing. Our week of lasts has come and gone. Our last full mileage tour day was yesterday. Our last school presentation seems a distant memory, though I realize it was only 2 days ago. Our last Ferry ride was yesterday off the Sunshine Coast. We even ran faster, so as to catch the earlier Ferry into Horseshoe Bay and hopefully, catch the last period on the Canucks game. And, if open, say hello to our old friend Giovani who fed us many a slice at Pudgies Pizza during our 18 months of training here in the Bay, to let him know we were back!
So here we were last night, coming off the biggest Ferry ride of our lives with our posse’ of patrol, Team Knuckleheads Rick and Andy, Amber and Rob, Steph and I (our numbed senses trying to take it all in).
We were finally home, back on REALLY familiar terra nova. Horseshoe Bay became a 2nd weekend get away for us over the 18 months of training, as we ate here, occasionally slept here (before heading back on our 34 milers) and were now experiencing all those memories flooding back like movies in our minds eye at the end of a life.
It is essentially what is happening today, the end of a way of life we have been running for the better part of 2 ½ years as we run this most fitting of last run days, along our biggest training route, the 34 mile out and back between Horseshoe Bay to Vancouver! It is hard to describe all the memories, feelings and stories that have been stored inside our heads and feet.
I’ll make this a bit shorter as the amount of everything embedded could fill a 4-page blog (but I won’t bore you with a long diatribe).
I will just say, BRING IT ON! We feel complete in the mission we set out on and ready to enjoy today with all the magic it is surely to have in store!
The last day was a fabulous day! Just like Christmas when you are a kid! I so enjoyed watching you complete this EPIC journey (punn intended) running around North America for the environment! WAY TO GO!!!!!! Cheers, Shaunah P.S. The “real” journey has just begun! Long live Run For One Planet!
