Coughing. Sneezing. Barfing. Good times on our day off.
Hi from Washington DC. I wish I were writing to say we’d had an amazing day off, visiting all the museums, memorials and historical monuments that make DC famous. Ok, we tried to visit all these things and places but a nasty alien invaded my nose and throat. And a bug situated itself inside Steph’s stomach.
Waking up feeling lousy wasn’t on the Run for One Planet day #202 agenda. And if it hadn’t been such a coveted day off, both Steph and I would have most likely just stayed in bed sleeping to get rid of the aliens who invaded our bodies. We also decided to leave the RV because (perfect timing) the propane ran out last night, we had zero heat and it was cold folks, so we were freezing. We three, bundled up and made our way towards the sights of DC. On the subway with about 4 stops to go, Steph announced suddenly and abruptly, “we have to get off before the doors close”. It wasn’t going to be pretty is all I’ll elaborate on.
After the breakfast returning on Steph we decided to still go into downtown and see what we could. Steph ended up meeting a friend from school for lunch (though no food was consumed, only some good catch up conversation). Simon and I went into the Museum of Natural History and looked at some amazing artifacts and incredible finds from all around the world. I ended up calling it quits pretty early into the game when my head felt like it should be on display next to the Wolly Mamouth. So Simon took one for the team, as was feeling healthy and thoroughly enjoyed snapping pictures of himself in front of all the famous monuments and statues.
I managed a quick walk down Pennsylvania Avenue for a peek at the White House. It’s cool to think a totally new direction in Government is moving into the big white house at the end of the street come January 20th. You can still feel it on the street and hear it in people’s conversations. America is pumped and ready to re-invent itself.
So there it is folks. Our big day off! Woo Hoo! I’m going back to bed. Steph hasn’t moved since returning back almost 2 hours ago shivering. I’m glad to report that we have heat again, courtesy of the propane fuel guy. Simon just got back with a camera full of you guessed it, shots of himself in front of statues and monuments.
Good night (at 7:15pm) from the Cherry Hill camping resort just north of Washington DC. If anyone’s interested, people are offering (and getting upwards of $20,000 for their condos and houses for Inauguration weekend. Even this camping resort has a wait-list a mile long apparently. Maybe we could rent out the mothership for a cool $10,000?
